Hello!

I was excited when Jen asked for volunteers for a task force to review OA selections for CARLI in the Alma KB.

At U of I, we have not activated very many OA collections in the KB because it is our preference that CARLI manage OA for us in the Network Zone.

I asked my Graduate Assistant, Zhaneille Green, to search the KB and compile lists of OA collections there, and I reviewed what she found to take a survey of what’s available and what we might prioritize to activate. I don’t know if our
methodology for doing this was the best and I’m sure my recommendations are not perfect either, but I would appreciate if this group and CARLI would review them and consider them!

Zhaneille searched our Institution Zone, the Network Zone, and the Community Zone for collections with the following terms in their names: “open access,” “open,” “free,” and “OA.” She then added the numbers of portfolios in the collections
to the lists. I merged these lists and deduped them to come up with the final spreadsheet that is attached. It has a worksheet with all the collections she found, and then there is a separate worksheet called “recommend CARLI select” with 68 collections I
would like us to consider activating for the consortium (and which I would bring up with our collections folks here for consideration if CARLI decides not to). I prioritized well-known sources/publishers that support article-level linking.

I’m sure I did not find everything worth considering and I probably also made mistakes in my recommendations.

I will not be able to attend the meeting next week because I have a conflict I cannot change. I’m sorry I won’t be there! I hope this list is useful to this group and would appreciate any feedback!
