(via Sarah Huber, Purdue University) Save the Date! Its official - the next IVLA (International Visual Literacy Conference) Conference will be at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The hybrid event will feature an online Conference day Monday, October 2, with in-person Conference events happening Thursday, October 5, through Sunday, October 8. We hope to see you there! The Conference theme is Ways of Seeing. As professionals who may be practicing artists, educators, or museum professionals, and as people with different cultural backgrounds and life experiences, we all have different perspectives when it comes to interpreting visual information. This conference will examine those perspectives and ask what we might learn from each other. Call for Proposals The IVLA is now welcoming proposals for our 2023 conference. Please visit https://go.illinois.edu/IVLA for the Call for Proposals. Proposals are due Saturday, April 1. Virtual Session Information Virtual presentations will be offered for those unable to travel to Champaign and will prioritize presentations from our international members and presenters who are unable to travel. (via Kestrel Ward, University of Florida) My name is Kestrel Ward (University of Florida), and my research partner is Evangeline Giaconia (University of Florida). We are undertaking a study to understand how archival institutions engage their LGBTQ+ materials. To that end, we have developed a survey to collect data on how institutions around the US catalog, collect, use, and make accessible their LGBTQ+ archival materials. The purpose of this study is to determine how archives use these historically invisible materials, with the aim of developing strategies for making LGBTQ+ materials more easily accessible. We encourage everyone to take this survey, no matter your knowledge about LGBTQ+ materials or culture. The survey is less than 20 questions, and data will be anonymized in any resulting work. This is the anonymous link for the survey: https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://qfreeaccountssjc1.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5APXNsY6oKKKFsq__;!!DZ3fjg!871RDbegAwUYYgPJJwvQ_FqhwHMcafloDEVVCSiUYMGpKy6CL4Ti5gAHIiJMJowxZwWI88GklqD96wGHooVg5NoI5b8$ . (via Tina Mead, Art Institute of Chicago) The Art Institute of Chicago is thrilled to announce the launch of two open access digital publications: ?Perspectives on In/stability,? edited by Robyn Farrell and Delinda Collier, and ?Perspectives on Data,? edited by Emily Lew Fry and Erin Canning. Each peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary volume examines its theme through essays, interviews, and artistic contributions by individuals and teams from both within and outside the Art Institute. The contributions interrogate art, art history, and museum practice, prompting new, compelling conversations in dialogue with the museum?s collections and exhibitions.
