From EEdwards at ILSOS.GOV Fri Jan 5 18:33:41 2024 From: EEdwards at ILSOS.GOV (Edwards, Eric A) Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2024 18:33:41 +0000 Subject: [ArchivesSpCollig] call for nominations: ALA Library History Round Table's Innovation and Advocacy in Library History Award--deadline Fri., March 29 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Please excuse any cross-posting. (via Dee Anna Phares, Northern Illinois University) The American Library Association?s Library History Round Table (LHRT) seeks nominations for its Innovation and Advocacy in Library History Award. Individuals or organizations may be nominated for any projects or contributions such as, but not limited to, websites, library guides, and exhibitions (virtual or physical). Criteria Nominations, including self-nominations, are welcomed from all interested parties but must pertain to activities taking place in the past two years. Nominations will be judged on the contributions' quality, impact, and relevance to LHRT or the library history community. The LHRT is particularly interested in recognizing those who have promoted library history in exceptional or new ways or who have reached audiences that have not been engaged previously. Submissions and Selection Each nomination must include a brief statement thoroughly explaining the contribution or project and why the nominee is worthy of consideration. It must also include at least two (2) letters of support. Individual nominees must include a CV or resume, while organizational nominees must include a statement indicating the organization's mission and other background information. Before submitting materials, nominators should contact the Committee Chair (Alea Henle, henlear at miamioh.edu ) to learn whether the person or organization has already been nominated. Nominators of the same entity may be asked to collaborate to produce stronger applications and reduce duplicative effort. Submissions should be sent to Alea Henle, henlear at miamioh.edu. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 29. The winner will be announced in June 2024. About the Award The Innovation and Advocacy in Library History Award is presented by the Library History Round Table (LHRT) of the American Library Association as a "best of year" achievement award that enables the LHRT to acknowledge individuals or organizations that have made recent, substantive contributions to LHRT or to the wider library history community. The intention of the award is to recognize efforts that are ineligible for other LHRT prizes; thus, nominations which emphasize publication of articles, books, dissertations, or essays will not be considered. Membership in LHRT is encouraged but not required. The Innovation and Advocacy in Library History Award is a non-monetary award with a printed citation. There is no cash or medal associated with the award. The Archives Task Force is creating a web resource repository for CARLI members that will aid them in assessing, planning, and maintaining archival collections in ways that prioritize both care and access. The documents and educational materials provided will apply to all institutions, collection sizes, and collection types. Our goal is to create an Archives & Special Collections Resource Page to collect information and resources from CARLI members about managing archival collections. This would be similar to the CARLI Preservation Resources webliography of preservation and conservation materials. To begin this process, the Special Collections & Archives Resource Page will include PDF copies of forms, policies, procedures, and guidelines used in managing archival collections. This could include policies and statements such as: * Collection Development policy * Deeds of Gift, Transfers, and Deposit Agreements * Loan Agreements * Mission Statements * Permission to Publish We want to learn from each other and build on the existing work of CARLI members! As part of this process, the Task Force will make monthly calls for CARLI members to send in their documentation relating to relevant topics. The documentation will then be reviewed by Task Force members for possible inclusion in the webliography. We will be asking for other types of documentation later this spring, so more to come. Guidelines for submitting your forms to the Archives & Special Collections Resource Page: * The originating agency will submit their forms via e-mail attachment to CARLI Support (support at carli.illinois.edu)) as Word or PDF documents. CARLI Archives Taskforce will rename the document to clearly identify the type of form and the donating institution, i.e., "Photocopy Request - Illinois State University." We will also change Word documents into PDF documents before loading to the Web Resource Repository * The forms will be organized by type of form, not by repository. * Forms submission should be accompanied by an e-mail giving CARLI permission to place the forms online. This does not have to be formal, but the note about permission must be clearly stated in the e-mail. * It will be the responsibility of the originating organization to send updated forms to CARLI * Originating agency can request that forms be removed at any time; however, a reasonable amount of time should be allowed for the request to be completed. Please send any questions or comments to CARLI Support at support at carli.illinois.edu.
