I'm writing to send a couple reminders for our next meeting: * Please test the "discovery_customer_defined_exact_match_field" parameter if time allows. It is currently enabled in the sandbox Primo VE Union View and can be compared to our production Union View. More information about this configuration is available in this folder, and you can add your findings or comments. * Our main task for next week's meeting is to nail down some details for our session during the AI Symposium (title, abstract, presenters, presenter bios). Margaret and Allan indicated interest in presenting during our last meeting, but we decided to discuss further with the whole committee present. I will send out a short draft abstract for us to respond to at the beginning of next week along with the agenda. Please feel free to add/edit as needed and let me know if anything major ought to change. I also promised to draft a title/abstract for our AI Symposium session as a starting point. We do not have to use anything I'm proposing - I just feel that it's easier to workshop these details if we have a starting point. Title: Critically Evaluating AI-Powered Research and Discovery Tools Abstract: AI tools are increasingly being integrated as opt-in features for discovery platforms and databases, leaving libraries to determine whether these tools merit adoption and promotion. Join [name, affiliation], [name, affiliation], and [name, affiliation] from the CARLI Discovery Primo VE Committee to discuss strategies for evaluating new features and standalone tools. This session will introduce a framework for critical evaluation, using the Primo VE Research Assistant and [other software?] as examples, and consider the implications of enabling or endorsing AI-powered research tools at their libraries. Message-ID: Hi, all, In response to my announcement last week about the audio/video Local Resource Types project being completed, I received a reply from a member library inquiring if it would be possible to create a Local Resource Type for audiobooks that I am passing along for discussion: -------- I was looking over the email you sent about the New I-Share Consortia Resource types and have a suggestion. We had a question from a student about an easy way to find audiobooks in Primo. My suggestion was to use the resource type Audio to locate them, but it isn't as neat as looking for an Audio CD because "Audio" is more of a blanket term that covers a bunch of different Audio resource types including both CDs and streaming audio. We can drill down to CDs, but not to just streaming audio, and that is what the student wanted. I wondered if we could get one for streaming audio that is spoken word (aka Audiobooks). I think the Streaming Audiobook resource type could be built on these codes: LDR/06 = i and 007=sz Would that be possible? I noticed that we have a new EBSCO ebook collection from the State and there are some audiobooks in there, so I think this would be really helpful consortium wide. -------- We will put this on the agenda for the February meeting! Feel free to talk to catalogers at your own libraries, and we can always consult with the Technical Services Committee as well, if needed. thanks, -Jessica -- Jessica Gibson Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), any written communication to or from University of Illinois employees regarding U of I business is a public record and may be subject to public disclosure. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
