From larissagarcia at niu.edu Fri Dec 6 18:03:32 2024 From: larissagarcia at niu.edu (Larissa Garcia) Date: Fri, 6 Dec 2024 18:03:32 +0000 Subject: [ISL-FY24-OERGrant] Using AI in OER Creation Message-ID: Hi, everyone: I know there's a webinar in January on AI and Ancillary Creation, but we're wondering how PI/Project Directors are handling the use of AI in the OER projects. We're planning to address it at one of project meetings with faculty authors and creating a guide of considerations. Has anyone else had these conversations with their faculty authors? Would love to hear how everyone is planning to address the issues and concerns that come with generative AI. And of course, we're happy to share whatever we come up with as well. Best, Larissa K. Our accessibility expert is interested in writing alt text/captions using ChatGPT. The library does not necessarily support or recommend using AI, although the university does have a policy that gives faculty some guidance on how to integrate AI into coursework (linked from a faculty resources page published by our Center for Learning Innovation). That is to say, I will also be spending some time talking to my dean, the Center for Learning Innovation, and our authors about whether we want to use ChatGPT or do the alt text ourselves. I can keep the listserv updated - those conversations will start in January. I'll look forward to hearing what you do at NIU, too.
