To help kickstart your work on you Illinois State Library OER grants, CARLI is offering regular office hours and several workshops.
We encourage you to share broadly as many of the workshops will benefit all of your team members. The workshops are offered several times and will be recorded for reference. You and your team members may attend as many times as you like. We recommend attending live if possible.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in OER
Part I: OER and DEI: Social Justice on Your College Campus (1.5 hours)
How could DEI topics, such as equitable access, raise the quality of assignments, discussions and group projects in your course? What have you had to do to amend traditionally published material to become relevant to your course? Your students? Your community? In this two-part workshop, we will explore the opportunities to use OER to highlight DEI opportunities in your courseware material, using OEP. This discussion will include OER as a social justice tool, examples of Open Pedagogy and a workshop assignment using evidence-based teaching practices. Open pedagogy, also known as open educational practices (OEP), is the use of OER to support learning, or the open sharing of teaching practices with a goal of improving education and training at the institutional, professional, and individual level. OEP positions students as content creators, not just consumers, and guides them to understanding their responsibility as global citizens and contributors to the knowledge commons.
