Hi, all.
Since I only heard from one person expressing interest in this collaboration, so it sounds like this is not something the committee wants to pursue this year. I'll write to the Public Services Committee tomorrow to let them know.
Thanks everyone.
Best,
Dee Anna

Hi, OER Committee.
On my campus, we've certainly been getting questions about AI and OER. A few institutions across the country have been putting together guides with info on best practices or toolkits to help folks navigate these murky waters. Is this or some other topic worth pursuing?
I am of two minds about it because the IL OER Summit is set to take place in April and May is when the Information Literacy Summit and CARLI Instruction Showcase are usually held. And if OER folks are attending one or more of these, it might lower turnout. We also have a lot on our plates as a Commitee this year, so I don't want anyone to be stretched too thin. If you are interested, maybe we could have a subcommittee collaborate with Public Services on the Symposium.
Thoughts? Public Services is requesting a response before our next meeting, so we should chat about this via email by Tuesday, September 24th so we can get back to them before the 27th.
Best,
Dee Anna

The Public Services Committee would like to know if the OER Committee would be interested in collaborating on an AI Symposium. See message below.

-----
Greetings, CARLI Committee Leaders,
After a successful program<https://www.carli.illinois.edu/public-services-committee-ai-event> this summer on generative AI and academic libraries, the Public Services Committee is exploring the feasibility of a CARLI-wide AI symposium for some time around April or May of 2025 that would cover a variety of concrete topics related to AI and libraries. We are contacting you to see if your committee would be interested in pursuing this idea more.
If so,
1. What programs/topics would your committee be interested in?
2. What would be your preference for modality: in-person event or a Zoom webinar?
We think that this could have the potential to bring together CARLI Committees and library workers from diverse library positions. Examples of topics could be: using assistive AI for discovery of research sources, an overview of AI in commercial products, AI tools for cataloging and other Technical Services processes, uses and/or information literacy of AI in library instruction, AI chatbots for Reference, and AI and patron privacy, racism, and ethics.
Please let us know if you have any questions and respond by September 27 so that we may plan accordingly.
