(via Adrian Ho, University of Chicago) The 20th International Open Repositories Conference (OR2025) will be held from Sunday, June 15, to Wednesday, June 18, in Chicago, IL. The theme for the Conference is ?Twenty Years of Progress, a Future of Possibilities?. OR2025 is the 20th anniversary of the Open Repositories Conference. We are marking this milestone with a Conference theme that reflects the progress and contributions that the repository community has made toward equitable access to digital resources and research outputs. In addition, we are also exploring the future possibilities of what repositories can do to tackle the many global challenges that currently exist. We particularly welcome proposals aligned to the overall theme, but also on other administrative, organizational, or practical topics related to open digital repositories. We are interested in the following sub-themes: * Community: How can repositories continue to serve a global community with diverse uses and needs? What can we as a repository community do to create connections through integrations, foster trust in the material held in repositories and promote local and indigenous knowledge? * Sustainability and Preservation: How can we ensure that repositories and their digital content last beyond the next 20 years in a financially and environmentally sustainable way? * Inspiration: Have you been inspired by attending an Open Repositories conference to develop, implement, change practices or start a project? We would love to hear how this is going! * Blue-sky thinking: What might the future of equitable access to digital resources and research outputs look like? How can we go beyond the status quo and AI as the answer to everything? Submission categories include posters, workshops, lightning talks, papers, the repository showdown, and panels. Please visit the Call for Proposals page to learn more about the sub-themes and submission categories of the Conference, including a full list of submission templates and key dates for submission deadlines and approvals. Note that all submissions must be made in ConfTool, our conference management tool. The deadline for submissions is now Monday, January 13. We are also pleased to announce that applications for fellowships to attend OR2025 are now open. Fellowship recipients will receive funding for travel, accommodation, meals and incidentals, as well as full conference registration, including the poster reception and conference dinner. To apply, please complete the form here by Wednesday, January 22. Applicants will receive notification by Tuesday, February 28. (via Laura Saunders, Simmons University) The publication Library Trends is pleased to announce a call for papers for an issue on compelling tensions in library and information science. The field of library and information science (LIS) has compelling tensions similar to those explored by Thomas Kuhn in the fields of science. Many of these tensions have been a part of the discipline and profession for a long time, and others have emerged in the digital age with the explosion of information and the ways to access, manipulate, and share that information. This issue of Library Trends seeks to reveal and explore compelling tensions within LIS. We welcome articles that provide analyses of theories that contribute to or dispel those tensions and explorations of how those tensions inform practice in libraries, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions. Articles can address tensions such as the following ones. * Access versus privacy * The Right to Remember versus the Right to be Forgotten * Evidence versus spectacle * Connotative meanings and denotative meanings * Linked data and data management * Cultural sensitivity and cultural control * Epistemicide and cultural preservation * Intellectual freedom and social good/responsibility * Neutrality versus activism * AI & algorithms versus human-mediated services The complete call for papers, including a timeline for publication, is available on the Library Trends website. Prospective authors are invited to submit an abstract outlining their proposed article by Friday, January 3. Inquiries about the planned issue and ideas for articles should be director to Katherine Wisser, Guest Editor (wisser at simmons.edu). (via Josh Cromwell, The University of Southern Mississippi) The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries are now accepting proposals for the 2025 Southern Miss Institutional Repository Conference (SMIRC), which will take place from Thursday, April 24, to Friday, April 25, on campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and online. We are accepting proposals for short concurrent sessions (approx. 25 minutes), full concurrent sessions (approx. 50 minutes), panels (multiple speakers on a common topic, approx. 1 hour), workshops (hands-on opportunity for participants to learn about a specific topic pertinent to IRs, approx. 2 hours), lightning talks (approx. 5 minutes), and posters. This year, we are also adding a pre-conference that will take place on the afternoon of April 23, 2025. Pre-conference sessions will explore topics and themes connected to the future of IRs: specifically, major concerns, developments, and challenges for the next decade. Pre-conference sessions will be in-person only and will not be recorded. For the main conference, we welcome proposals from all institutions that either have an IR or that are interested in pursuing an IR for their institution. The conference is platform-agnostic, so proposals utilizing all varieties of IR platforms are welcome. Topics for proposals may include (but are not limited to): * Choosing an IR platform * IR staffing models * Artificial intelligence (AI) and IRs * Accessibility for IRs * Community-driven IR platforms and initiatives * Supporting underrepresented groups through IRs * Library-led publishing through the IR * Data management and IRs * Diverse and underrepresented communities in the IR * Metrics and tools for evaluating IRs Priority will be shown to in-person presentations, but because the conference will be delivered in a hybrid format, a small number of presentation slots will be available for fully virtual presenters. Hybrid presentations, in which one or more presenters are in person while their co-presenters participate virtually, are also welcome. The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, January 17. Acceptance e-mails will be sent no later than January 31. Proposals may be submitted here. Registration is free for all attendees and will open in January. More information about the event itself is available here. Please contact joshua.cromwell at usm.edu for any questions about proposals or about SMIRC.
