Mike,
My two suggestions are not new titles like Fran's' but titles I use
when trying to decide how to conserve something or how much work to do to
something that I have been asked to rescue or repair.
 They are:
Cunha, George Daniel Martin Conservation of Library Materials : A manual
and Bibliography on the Care, Repair and Restoration of Library Materials.
Metuchen, N.J. : The Scarecrow Press, Inc., 1967. (405 pp.)
Greenfield, Jane The Care of Fine Books. [New York] : Lyons & Burford
Publishers, 1988. (160 pp.)
Both are available via AddALL.com as new or used books not too costly
($10.00-$25.00). Good luck with all your decision making.

McKinstry Library at Lincoln College may be inheriting several hundred rare
Abraham Lincoln related books. We currently do have a special collections,
however the items in our special collections are from the 20th Century.
Many of the books that we may be receiving are from the 19th Century. Does
anyone have any recommendations for resources that would detail the proper
care for these items? Or any suggestions?
