(via Laura Rooney, Association of Moving Image Archivists) Registration is open for the AMIA (Association of Moving Image Archivists) webinar "Reuniting Films with Their Makers". It will take place on Tuesday, August 2, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM CDT. Please see below for more information, including a link to registration. This webinar is part of the Preservation for Filmmakers series. Addressing the relationship between filmmakers, moving image archives, and film labs, this workshop will offer avenues and resources for filmmakers to reunite with their "lost" films. The widespread closure of film labs led to a fraught situation for many filmmakers trying to locate, share, and monetize their films. This workshop will provide an overview of how film labs ended up storing films, what happened when they closed, and approaches and networks you might explore in pursuing your own film elements. The history and critical role of moving image archives for filmmakers will also be covered to help foster the filmmaker/archive relationship. There is a vast network of moving image archives able and willing to assist filmmakers, not only in finding their films, but offering homes for them and ensuring their preservation and relevance long into the future. The presenters are Rachael Stoeltje, founder and Director of the Indiana University Libraries Moving Image Archive; and Rick Prelinger, Chair and Professor of Film and Digital Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and also co-founder of Prelinger Library. (via Carrie Pirmann, Bucknell University) Stressed about getting your BUDSC22 (Bucknell University Digital Scholarships Conference 2022) proposal in on time? You're in luck, because we have extended the deadline to Sunday, July 31! We look forward to reading your proposals! The theme of this year's Conference is "Converging Paths: Digital Scholarship, Social Justice, and Intersecting Communities". The event will take place online from Tuesday, October 18, to Thursday, October 20. Digital scholarship has often been rooted in the academy, although many of our projects seek to uncover community histories, lives, and events. In this year's Bucknell University Digital Scholarship Conference, we seek to address the question: What are the paths through which digital scholarship intersects with communities and social justice? The questions we pose to participants as jumping off points for proposals include, but are not limited to: * How does digital scholarship help us challenge dominant narratives and ideologies? * Whose voices can be elevated, uncovered, and reclaimed through digital scholarship? * How do we bridge the gap and promote engagement between the academy and community through digital scholarship? * What does it mean to collaborate on and produce digital scholarship projects with communities beyond our own, and what ethical responsibilities do we share? * How can we learn from and build on our experiences to sustain digital scholarship projects? #BUDSC22 is committed to expanding the definition of digital scholarship to be more inclusive across diverse communities, both inside and outside of academia. The Conference will bring together a broad community of practitioners--faculty, researchers, students, librarians, educational technologists, administrators, and others--collaborating on digital scholarship through research, teaching, and community engagement. Submissions may take the form of interactive presentations, project demonstrations, digital posters (pre-recorded), panel presentations, work-in-progress sessions, workshops, or other creative formats. We look forward to building on the success of our past Conferences, in which we came together to discuss challenges, share working models, reflect on projects, and inspire new avenues for actively including students in scholarly pursuits.
